  5. This demonstration of Drive Rocket (TM) software allows you to see
  6. if your system would benefit by having Drive Rocket Software
  7. installed.  If your system shows an increase in data transfer rate,
  8. follow the instructions on the screen below for purchasing the
  9. retail version of Drive Rocket software for $39.95.

  12. HOW TO RUN DRIVE ROCKET SOFTWARE

  14. To run the demo of Drive Rocket, place the Drive Rocket Software
  15. Demo diskette in A: or B: and type ROCKET and press ENTER.

  18. HOW DOES DRIVE ROCKET SOFTWARE WORK?
  19.  
  20. Drive Rocket software makes use of a technology used in most new
  21. IDE (AT interface) hard drives called read-and-write-multiple
  22. mode (also known as multiple block size or MBS).  By using this
  23. technique, overall data transfer rate (measured in kilo-bytes
  24. per second, Kb/Sec) can be increased up to eighty percent.

  26. This verison of Drive Rocket also has a technology advancement called
  27. Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics(EIDE). This improves upon the   
  28. existing IDE interface standard. Standard IDE hardware can only
  29. support drives that run in modes 0-2. Enhanced IDE hardware support 
  30. mode 3 and greater. Typically, a high speed local bus, or PCI
  31. controller is required to support mode 3 and above.
  32. Drive Rocket supports controllers with the following chipsets:

  35.         CMD 640x PCI Local Bus
  36.         OPTi 82C611A VESA Local Bus

  38.         PCTech RZ1000 PCI Local Bus

  40. The Drive Rocket software demonstration will determine if your hard
  41. drive(s) support read-and-write-multiple mode.  Drive Rocket will
  42. then run a series of non-destructive benchmarks on all multiple
  43. block size (MBS) values supported, and I/O sizes from .5K to 64K,
  44. for three seconds each, to determine which MBS value will give your
  45. hard drive(s) the best overall data transfer rate.  When the
  46. benchmarks have been completed, a graph showing a before-and-after
  47. comparison of your hard drive's performance will be displayed.

  49. Drive Rocket software may increase your performance even if the
  50. drive does not support Multiple Block Size, especially if your
  51. system BIOS does not support shadowing. If shadowing is not
  52. enabled, each I/O request is handled by the system ROM BIOS. When
  53. Drive Rocket Software is installed, its device driver is handling
  54. each I/O in RAM which is faster then ROM.
